ANGEL VISITATIONS

By Remy Benoit

Across recorded time, in peace, in war; in private chambers and in public places there are recordings of Angel Visitations.

Poets through the centuries have recorded them, for as May Sarton once said, Poetry is what you feel.

Angel Visitations come not only with a feeling, but with a knowing, that a great love and protection are there for you.

Visitations come with deep feelings of peace; deep connections to all Creation.

One night several years ago when I sought comfort, I was enveloped in a roseate light of indescribable grace and assurance that all would be well.

Angel Visitations sometimes come when loving prayers issue from the hearts of those who love; a father diagnosed with terminal cancer lived another thirty-four years, but the visitation brought something quite special to the praying son, David Bowen:

I found the healing power of Jesus' love that He shares with us - the Angel, I thought, was the Holy Spirit/Ghost that came to speak to me - to console me - to make me sit up and pay attention to my life and that of those I loved - to confirm my belief in love and what it means - not to abuse it, but to use it for healing - to use it for growing relationships and for gaining a closer relationship with God - and that can only be accomplished with unconditional love - that is what saved my Dad.

The angel of the Lord was there in my bedroom that evening in the summer of '64.

David's service is in the medical community.

Sometimes Angels take on human form. After finishing the delivery of a college lecture, an unknown man came up to my father in the parking lot. He said, "Your voice was a bit raspy today; perhaps you should have it checked out." Then he was simply gone. Dad had his throat checked; the cancer was successfully treated.

The underlying theme of the Angel Visitations that speaks the most to me is that of the connection, the purpose and sometimes direction in life that the blessing brings us.

Michael Pectol who now, though still healing himself from experiences in combat in Vietnam, works diligently to bring his brothers 'home,' as so many parts of so many of them still remain on battlefields with those left behind.

Sgt. Michael Pectol, 2/77FA, 3d Brg., 25th Infantry Division, 1 Jan. 1968:

I'm sitting in the "vestibule" of our bunker with my men were waiting to go "on line"... I was leaning out to see all the fireworks. Hey....I'm a kid, not 19 for 2 whole months yet, almost, already...scary...but real cool...and very beautiful.
Different voice than my own inner voice says. "You better pull your head back under the over hang, NOW!"

While the voice was finishing the word NOW, I jerked my head back startled, and that peculiar buzzing sound a jagged piece of shrapnel makes....I was sitting cross-legged, and this big buzz comes, right passed where my head just was, and lands perfectly in the center of the space triangulated by my crossed legs.

Carried it as a souvenir for awhile. I mean, you know the voice that is your inner voice, especially if you are used to listening to it… and/or arguing with it… and that wasn't it… just out of the blue… interrupted the conversation I was having with my inner voice, with an important bulletin… breakin' news, like your head, if 'ya don't move it!

In the book which she compiled, Angles and Mortals: Their Co- Creative Powers, 1990, Maria Parisen brings us writings from history of angel encounters, visions, myths, and archetypes; from writers like Hildegard of Bingen, who wrote, all of creation is a symphony of joy and jubilation, to Black Elk who lived through the massacre at Wounded Knee to become a healer and a holy man.

From Black Elk Speaks:

I looked up at the clouds, and two men were coming there, headfirst like arrows slanting down; and as they came, they sang a sacred song and the thunder was like drumming. I will sing it for you. The song and the drumming were like this:

Behold, a sacred voice is calling you;

All over the sky a sacred voice is calling you.

Wherever you look, from ancient times to modern; in different religions, during the brightness of daylight, the dark of night, good times and bad, you will find encounters with angels, saving not only the day, but laying the paving stones for the future of those with whom they come in close encounters.
