Crystal Skulls

The Adventure Continues - An Adventure in New Mexico

My Crystal Skull Adventure Continues-An Adventure in New Mexico

While Harvey was my 1st skull, he was hardly my last.  After Harvey and the Council of Five, my addiction grew stronger and I hit E-Bay regularly to feed my habit.  Then of course, I had to get my friends addicted.

Both Dee and Rebecca were thrilled with the lore of the crystal skulls.  Each started their own small collection of these quartz crystal contemporary artifacts.  Dee even got her husband involved by letting the small modern skulls of green, purple and clear quartz sit by his desk.

They all had names—plucked from the ethers and Dee was very good about letting her gang sit on a sunny window sill, one of the favorite places for skulls.  They love the sun—it’s clears their energy.

My own brood continued to grow.  My travels at the time took me to a new age trade show, where I picked up a few skulls for both myself, and for stock in the brick & mortar book and gift store I ran at the time.

These travels also took me to Santa Fe , New Mexico a few years after Harvey came to live with me.  Here in a rock and mineral store, outside of a reputedly haunted hotel in the heart of downtown Santa Fe , I found two large skulls.  Or rather they found me.

A collection of fluorite skulls -- fluorite provides balance and creativity.

I had been in Santa Fe for several days, visiting the historic area with my sister.  We had done the typical tourist thing, which meant visiting the various tourist shops filled with books, clothes, native art ware and blankets, Navaho dolls and chili pepper items.  A few of these shops also held beads, stones and jewelry.  My sister was in the mood to create—inspired by the surrounding art galleries that Santa Fe is also famous for.

It had been that morning that my spirit guides had told me that I would buy another crystal skull while in the area.  This message surprised me, for I knew of no places that would sell such an artifact.  This was not my first time to Santa Fe and I had seen nothing in any of the shops that might carry such fare that I would now suddenly find a place that did stock crystal skulls.

None the less, the message remained strong.   My sister and I had found the bead shop where there were stones for sale and I added a moonstone crystal ball to me collection, while my sister picked up several strands of colorful beads.  She was on the hunt for more, it was clear to me.

We stopped to eat at a local restaurant and talked about plans for dinner.  I had wanted her to sample the food at the haunted restaurant in the hotel, which I had eaten at before during an earlier trip.  The food there was excellent and the staff professional and friendly.  The décor was quite pretty with a huge tree that grew in the middle of the room that was surrounded by stain glass and colorful Mexican tile work.

The hotel that houses the restaurant is old – the site it sits on dates back to when Santa Fe was little more than a stage coach stop.  Santa Fe is the oldest city in the United States , even older than St. Augustine in Florida .  Both cities are full of ghosts as a result.

This restaurant is no different and when I was there before, I questioned the wait staff who reluctantly noted that there were times that they felt being watched by something unseen and there had been times when dishes and silverware would transport themselves from one area to another by unseen hands.  They suggested taking the haunted tour that told more of the tale of lady in white who supposedly had been seen by past staff.  Unfortunately, this tour only runs at certain times of the season and I wasn’t able to take the tour during any of my visits.  Something to put on my To Do list.

I convinced my sister that at the least I wanted to share the place with her, if nothing else for the food and to take a few photos.  My sister indulges my beliefs grudgingly, but isn’t much of a believer in such stuff as ghosts much less crystal skulls, which spooks her out.

So we headed for the hotel to make dinner reservations.  On the way in however, we found a shop that sold beads and rocks; a shop within the confines of the hotel and which had been closed on my last trip.

Now it was open and my sister spotted strands of brightly colored beads to add to her new collection.  I wandered in after her, noting the various crystals and minerals to add to my collection back home.  I began to explore the small shop, with a sharp nudge to my senses which indicated a tug from the spirit guides.  I remembered their earlier message about finding a new crystal skull.  Was this the place they meant?

My question was answered before I finished thinking it – for I suddenly saw them – the crystal skulls.  There were quite a few of them behind the doors of a locked glass cabinet and a sign nearby announced that they were all 50% off!

Yes, once again, my guides were right.  I knew I had been led to this place immediately.

The skulls were all contemporary but the carving was excellent – not too rough or monkey-looking like some skulls I had seen recently, while back home.

They mostly were of quartz – no fluorite or amethyst among them.  Some were small and others were quite large.  I stood gaping at all of them, knowing one would pick me.

I have quite a few crystal skulls...and then some....

The shop keeper –an older woman was quite a sight herself – she had pink hair – or was it green – I don’t remember now, only that it was an unnatural color and unusual for a woman of her years.  She was hardly the age of a punk teenager who might sport such a fashion.  Yet, she seemed nice enough as she remarked that the skulls were quite the thing these days, as she unlocked the cabinet for me.

My sister was as gleeful about her bead hunt as I was about my skull hunt and ignored us both.  The shop keeper wandered off as I was left to examine the skulls.  Carefully, I took one or two in hand feeling their energy.

Each seemed a bit different and I waited until one spoke to me and wanted to come home with me.  I glanced at the price tags too and gulped; I hadn’t really expected to spend that type of money –even at half price.

But my guides intervened and told me not to worry; that the money spent today would be there when I returned home.   Well, they had been right about the skulls, so….

I know I wanted to get one, but I found myself torn between two skulls.  One was larger and clearer quartz than the other, which was more of a quartz with a yellowish, almost citrine, look to it.  Each was magnificent in both carving quality and in the energy I felt coming from each.

But the price tag….

Again, I was told not to worry and soon my sister was through with her shopping and we needed to go.  I took and my credit card and sent up a silent prayer that my guides were right – I hadn’t wanted to spend as much as I did—but both skulls were to be mine and the transaction was made.

My sister just shook her head; she’s long given up on explaining why I do the things I do and now accepts that I just do them, with or without her approval.  Which of course I didn’t need, but siblings being siblings always seem to need each other’s permission or approval when making weighty decisions.  Ah, family!

One was larger and clearer quartz....

Lazarus and Prometheus by my bedside allows me to have vivid dreams...

We had to go back to our hotel because the skulls were becoming too heavy, along with our other packages.  Besides it was mid to late afternoon and a short nap was in order.

Back at the hotel, I put both skulls out to see if they would provide any names to call them by.  But no names came.  They won’t come until much later when I had returned home.

The rest of our trip was exhilarating as we did eat in the haunted restaurant where I befriended another fellow traveler who was also into ghosts and we share haunting tales in the surrounding area.  She had traveled with her dog, as she was partially disabled and the dog sensed something in the restaurant.

Later my sister and I visited ancient Native America ruins near the Los Alamos area and found ourselves both feeling strange energies from the area.  My sister is sensitive to energies, but simply doesn’t like to admit it.   Although I think anybody visiting the area would have to be dead not to feel something from the very cool ancient ruins.

The entire trip was memorable for many reasons and several other ‘interesting’ events unfolded while I was there.  But the events didn’t seem to start until after I had bought the two skulls.

Once home I brought the new skulls to meet my collection of skulls.  During a meditation I found that the two new skulls were indeed special skulls and called themselves: Star Skulls.   They had been imbued with energies directly from far off heavens and the personalities attached to them, slowly began to emerge.

Harvey was jealous of the newest skulls – he had been the largest until then.  But both skulls were bigger than he and he could tell that they were special.  Still he wasn’t thrilled to have them around at first; although I’m happy to say that he has now accepted them both and all get along just fine.  Now.

As our trip had taken place around Thanksgiving, and now it was Christmas, I was once again visiting with family.

Prometheus poses by a computer keyboard; quartz is used in computers and watches.

My sister lives in a suburb near Chicago while I live north about sixty or more miles away, so we don’t visit in person but a few times a year and mostly around the holidays.

I was planning on staying with my sister and her husband along with my niece and nephew during the Christmas holiday.  The two new skulls had been vocal since my return although their names still hadn’t been revealed.

As I began to pack, the smaller of the new skulls, spoke to me and wanted to come along.

He has plans for me he said.  I had established that both skulls held masculine energies –or at least I called them ‘he’s’ instead of ‘she’s’.

I asked if the larger skull wanted to come too, but no, he would stay home and get a report back from the smaller skull.  Again I asked their names, but no names came.

‘When the time is right…” they replied.

And so, I packed the smaller skull with me, knowing my sister would simply be thrilled to have me bring one of the newer skulls – not!

As it turned out, my sister wasn’t too surprised when I showed up with the skull and placed him by my bedside.  She warned my autistic nephew who was 12 at the time, to leave it alone.   As it was, he glanced at it, but didn’t touch it.   My 16 year-old niece simply rolled her eyes; I had long ago given up on my niece in her teenage years.  We had stopped talking to each other when she was eleven.  Maybe when she’s an adult in her twenties, I will be able to communicate with her, I thought as I left the skull by my bedside and joined the family in holiday festivities.

Christmas came and went with the usual holiday fare of gift gifting and hearty eating.  After the holiday had passed, my sister suggested a trip someplace fun and it was the skull’s idea to go to the local botanical gardens.

I had recently been given a digital camera from my good friend and fellow skull collector, Kristy and it was the skull’s idea to have him photographed among the flora and fauna of the indoor gardens.

The idea was very appealing to me and I was excited by all the new ideas he had been feeding me.  Much of which dealt with photographing the crystal skulls in various locations and writing about them.

I told my sister of my desire and with only a slight roll of her eyes and a small patient smile, we were off to the botanical gardens with skull in hand.

I had been getting an inkling of what the skull’s name was; he perhaps was trying to tell me but I wasn’t really getting it.  At the indoor gardens which was divided into various sections according to climates that included rainforest, desert and tropical, a name finally made itself known.   I was taking pictures with the skull situated among cacti as a name started coming forth.  But it was when the picture with me and the skull standing under a huge tropical cacao tree, which is where chocolate comes from, that the name finally came:  Prometheus.

Not exactly like a Henry or a Bob.  Speaking of which, I kept thinking at first the skulls was saying Pygmalion – who was the sculptor who fell in love with his creation and which the musical “My Fair Lady” is based on.   This musical has always been one of my favorites and means even more to me, so the name Pygmalion would mean something to me.

But no, the name was Prometheus – the name coming from the god who introduced fire to humans, or so Greek mythology would say.  This skull was to bring ‘fire’ to my belly – which is a euphemism for awaking my creativity and alludes back to the third chakra, located just above the navel and which holds the energy of creation among other attributes.  This information all came to me in a rush during our photographic session in the botanical indoor gardens on that cold winter day.

Finally my skull had a name and once that was established, the name of the larger skull came quickly after: Lazarus – the name coming from the biblical story of the man who came back to life with the touch of the divine being named Jesus the Christ.

Prometheus and I visit an inside botanical garden in Chicago.

This meant something to me, as I had been having personal dialogues with the prophet for over a year – He has a great sense of humor by the way, and I considered Him a very good friend.  So the name Lazarus was acknowledgement of not only the friendship but all that I had derived from it – for the year had been an unusual one for me and without His help probably would been very different and difficult, but it wasn’t; and the allusion to the fact that I was ‘coming back to life’ after this potentially dark period.

I loved the fact that these two Star Skulls were here to help me continue on the journey.  So, now I had two skulls – Prometheus and Lazarus – Star Skulls who would open me up to new creative projects and usher me back on the road I needed to be on.

And indeed the spirit guides were correct – the money I had spend on these two new friends came back to me quickly as several money-making opportunities came my way with profitable results.  So that worry was for naught.

Since Prometheus and Lazarus have come into my life, more creativity as flowed as I continue to write books on angels, fairies and now crystal skulls.

The whole gang had helped me to obtain a certificate in crystal healing and had worked with me and my clients in that regard.

They had help bolster me when money wasn’t flowing in so readily and keep my spirits alive when I finally went back to work in the corporate IT world—something I was reluctant to do – but my check book needed for me to do.  I faced my demons and marched forward with their help.   Plus the angels’ help too; don’t want to forget their assistance.

I was being pushed into a new direction as my sideline company, Amethyst Moon, once again shifted its focus.  Or perhaps I should say it was redirected to its original purpose: to teach and have people learn about the various metaphysical and spiritual art topics.

Amethyst Moon had been formed in 1997 as a web site, with the intent of offering books for sale and having a section where information was given about topics such as crystal skulls, angels, fairies, ghosts, UFO and aliens, etc.

But this was the days of the early internet and I was working full-time to keep an apartment roof over my head.  I didn’t have the time or energy to do what my true intent was and Amethyst Moon took a different direction.   X-Files and aliens were the rage and my web site did a booming business as it sold alien toys over the years, and not much else.

I took Amethyst Moon on the road, lecturing and teaching people about various subjects and finally opened a brick & mortar store.   I found physical retail not my cup of tea and we took Amethyst Moon back to the internet, as I continue to give lectures, workshops and classes on metaphysical and spiritual arts subjects.

Somewhere in all that time, the crystal skulls entered my life.  It was time to help introduce these light earth energies, as they liked me to call them, to the world –again.  For their time was indeed coming.  They pushed me to finally read the well-known crystal skull book by Thomas and Morton – a book I had bought, but never read.  They pushed me to start writing this tome – about my adventures with them.

For parts of my life were all coming together and one of my favorite movies was making yet another sequel and it was titled: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Wow!  I thought and looked forward to the release in May 2008.  And I knew why the crystal skulls were pushing me forward.  This story was to be born and the knowledge was to come forward to those who were ready to listen.

I had sold a few crystal skulls before and now I was to do so again.  Prometheus, Lazarus and Harvey plus the Council of Five and More were all there to help.

Their personal story with me would be told and perhaps someone along the way would learn just how wonderful crystal skulls could be and adopt a few of their own, so the tale could continue to evolve and grow.

What purpose do the ancient skulls have?  We might not know for quite awhile and no doubt Hollywood will put its special spin on the new Indiana Jones movie.

But for me, the crystal skulls – contemporary but downloaded with knowledge for the ancients for exposure to those who have sat in their company – have been teacher, mentor and friend.

I have learned much along my own personal journey with them and I know that journey is hardly over.  In fact, it has just begun.

This is a skull carved from amethyst. Amethyst is a healing crystal, a form of quartz.  It is a highly spiritual crystal which corresponds to the crown chakra.
